Rusty Crick and Randy Ready to be inducted Friday, October 8, 2010


Grand Junction, Colo. — Mesa State College is pleased to announce long time head volleyball coach Rusty Crick and baseball standout Randy Ready will be inducted in to the Mesa State College Hall of Honor. The honorees will be officially inducted Friday, October 8, at Two Rivers Convention Center. This is the 13th class to be inducted. The Hall of Honor banquet will be held in conjunction with the Distinguished Alumni Awards and recognition of the MSC Distinguished Faculty member. The festivities begin with a social hour at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $50.00 per person and may be purchased by calling the Alumni Association at 970-248-1525.


Rusty Crick – Head Volleyball Coach – 1982-2004 – Assistant volleyball coach – 1979-1981…23 years as head volleyball coach he posted a 563-291 overall record….most volleyball wins in RMAC history…17  winning seasons, including 8 seasons with 30 or more wins…Eight RMAC championships and two RMAC west division titles…Four undefeated seasons in RMAC…Three post season appearances including the 1994 National Invitational Tournament, 1986 NAIA National Championship where the team finished seventh in the nation and posted the most wins (42-9)…Five-time Coach of the Year District VII by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA)…Coached six All-Americans, two Academic All-Americans, 76 All-RMAC players, 36 All-Region players, 35 All-RMAC Academic players, six RMAC Players of the Year, three RMAC Scholar Athlete of the Year, two Freshman of the Year and one RMAC Defensive Player of the Year…Coached the USA Team at the World University Games in Australia.

 

Randy Ready – Baseball player  - shortstop (1980)…NAIA All-America First Team selection ( National Association Intercollegiate Association)…NAIA batting champion  (.522)…Led the nation in batting in 1980…Holds Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) and MSC record for all-time highest batting average (.522)…Holds RMAC and MSC individual game record tied for most runs in a game (6) versus Regis University and tied for Most Base on Balls in a game (4) versus Southern Utah State College…Ranks fifth overall in slugging percentage (.850)…Drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 6th round of the 1980 amateur draft…Played for 17 seasons and five teams (Philadelphia Phillies, Montreal Expos, Milwaukee, Oakland A’s, San Diego Padres)…Played in the post season with the Oakland A’s (1993)…Career stats; batting average - .259, doubles – 107, triples – 21, homeruns – 40, RBI – 239…Managed in the San Diego Padres farm system at Single-A Fort Wayne Wizards where he guided the team to a playoff berth… Double-A San Antonio Missions where he led the team to the  Texas League championship and Triple-A Portland Beavers…Baseball America named Randy ‘Best Managerial Prospect’ in 2008…Current Hitting Coach with the San Diego Padres.
