Mavs Sign Seven for 2010-'11

Mesa State College head men’s basketball coach Jim Heaps and Associate Head Coach and recruiting coordinator Andy Shantz announced the signing of seven new players for the 2010-2011 academic year.

 

                Chandler Burgon – So., 6’8, Sandy UT…Played at Dixie State College in the 2006-’07 season… Played in 25 games…Averaged 2.0 points and 2.0 rebounds per game.

                Colton Burgon- So., 6’8, Sandy, UT (Hartnell Community College)… Averaged 16 points while shooting 60% from the floor and 42% from the 3-point line…Averaged 9.0 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game… He was selected First Team All Coast- South Division.

                Dan Estes- Fr., 5’11, Laramie, WY (Laramie High School)…Averaged 22.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 2.0 steals per game… He was selected Gatorade State Player of the Year…4A State Player of the Year…Two-time All State selection and Three-time All Conference honoree.

                Blake Francom- Jr., 6’5, Santaquin, UT (Hartnell Community College)…Averaged 15.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists per game…First Team All Coast-South Division as a freshman…Second Team All Coast-South Division as a sophomore.

                Mike Melillo- Fr. 6’5, Boulder, CO (Fairview High School)…Averaged 14.0 points, 5.0 rebounds while shooting 54% from the field and 43% from the 3-point line…He was selected All Front Range First Team…Denver Post All State Honorable Mention and selected to the 5A State All Tournament Team.

                Kalonji Paschal- Jr., 6’0, Portland, OR (Eastern Arizona College)…Averaged 15.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game…Started every game and was selected ACCAC player of the week for Feb. 7 posting 30 points and 12 rebounds vs. Pima Community College and 25 points and seven assists vs. Cochise College…Selected All Region Honorable Mention.

                Landon Vermeer- Fr., 6’2, Littleton, CO (Chatfield High School)…Averaged 16.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game…Selected Jeffco League Most Valuable Player… CHSCA All State Team and Denver Post All State Honorable mention.

               

MSC was crowned Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference champion and finished the year 23-6 overall. The Mavericks won its first ever NCAA Division II tournament game beating Winona State in the first round of the NCAA Division II Central Region Tournament. MSC was ranked as high as No. 9 in the National Association of Basketball Coaches Poll (NABC) during the season.
