Mesa State women’s swim team, ranked #19 in the latest poll defeated Pacific University (OR) 221-20, but fell to host #21 Grand Canyon 177-85 in Phoenix Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore standout Katie Wedel won the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:34.08 followed by teammate Denby Gardiner’s second place finish (2:39.72). Wedel placed second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:17.98) and third in the 400-yard IM (4:49.23). Gardiner took second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:12.54).
Sophomore Gina Panacci took second place in the 1,000 freestyle in a time of 11:32.35. Panacci placed third in the 500-yard freestyle (5:40.77). The relay team of Panacci, Rachel Bailey, Jordan McMillen and Gardiner finished third in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
Jaclyn McMillen, Wedel, Kelly Hogan and Rebecca Reed placed second in the 400-yard medley relay in a time of 4:12.05. Hogan finished third in the 200-yard freestyle (2:00.16). Jaclyn McMillen was second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:12.36) and finished third in the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.84).
The Mavs will host the Mesa State College Duals Saturday January 16 in its first home event in the new MSC Natatorium.
