        Mesa State Wrestling competed this past weekend over in Orem, Utah at the Utah Valley Open. The Mavericks placed 6 wrestlers in the top four including second place finishesfrom Senior Chase Walker, Sophomore Rhett Breed and Freshman Chase Tolbert. No team score was kept for the tournament and schools in the tournament included D1 powers Wyoming, Boise State, and Cal State Bakersfield.

        Freshman Chase Tolbert placed 2nd at 125 pounds, losing in the finals to Wyoming's Tyler Cox in the finals 22-6. Tolbert, who is redshirting this season, has placed in all three tournaments he has attended. His record now sits at 11-5.

        Sophomore Rhett Breed also placed 2nd at 141 pounds. Breed lost to Utah Valley's Wyatt Ray in the finals 5-1. Breed was inserted back into the Maverick lineup this past week and is now 8-3 on the season. 

        Senior Chase Walker lost to Wyoming's Jimmy Bellville in the Championship match at 157 pounds 7-4. Walker had to sit out the fall semester due to NCAA rules. Walker is now 10-4 on the season and 43-11 in his career at Mesa State. He is also currently ranked 2nd in the Division II National Rankings.

        Redshirt Freshman Tyler Nelson (125), Junior Chris Cielinski (184), and Sophomore Korey Kennedy (197) also placed in the top four at the Utah Valley Open.

        The Mavericks will be on the road the next two weeks at Nebraska Kearney for a dual on Wednesday night. The following night they will be in Hays, KS for a dual with Ft. Hays State. On January 23rd, the Mavericks will head to Gunnison to compete in the annual Tracy Borah Duals.
