Freshman Katie Wedel (Pueblo, CO) was named Rocky Mountain Athletic Swimmer of the Week for her outstanding performance at the Bill & Peggy Foster Dual Meet hosted by Mesa State College this past Saturday.
Wedel led the team to three first place finishes with dual victories over Colorado College, Grand Canyon University and CU-Club team.
The freshman standout from Pueblo South High School took home three first place finishes which all resulted in school records. She won the 100 meter breast (1:19:02), 200 meter breast (2:47.64) and 200 meter IM (2:31.01). She swam a leg of the 200 meter medley relay (2:11.66), which finished third, setting another new school record.
MSC set seven new school records in the dual meet and have set 16 new team records for the season. Denby Gardiner set a new 50 free record; Karoline Fry set a new record in the 100 backstroke and Jackie McMillen a record in the 200 backstroke. Fry, Wedel, Gardiner and Gina Panacci were members of the record setting 200 medley relay team.
