Coy, Kadavy, Keating, Waymire, Wikre - First Team

               Mesa State had 14 players named to the 2008 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference All-Football Teams announced by the conference office. MSC had five first team selections including Jared Keating as RMAC Special Teams Player of the Year and running back Bobby Coy’s unanimous selection.

                Keating, a two time RMAC Special Teams Player of the Year, led the team in scoring with 73 points. Keating was 15-of-18 in field goals and 28-of-29 in PAT’s. Keating’s long field goal of 52 yards came in the last game of the season at Neb.-Kearney.

                Coy is a two time RMAC First Team honoree. The junior running back was the only unanimous first team selection. Coy set the single season rushing record this season netting 1600 yards on 295 carries. His 4,161 total yards ties him for most career yards with Michael Vaughn.

                Senior offensive lineman Trevor Wikre is a two-time RMAC First Team selection. He is a four time all-conference first or second team selection and has been honored each of his four seasons on the All-Colorado Team.

                First Team defensive honors went to seniors Ryan Kadavy (OLB) and Brandon Waymire (S). Kadavy becomes a two-time RMAC First Team honoree and led the team this season in tackles (90), assisted tackles (62) and tackles for loss yardage (11.0/33). He tied for first on the team with three sacks and was second on the team in solo tackles (28).

                Safety Brandon Waymire was fifth on the team in tackles (55), including 24 solo tackles, recorded three pass breakups and one fumble recovery. Waymire was a RMAC Second Team selection a year ago with a team high six interceptions.

                Five Mavericks were named RMAC Second Team All-Conference; quarterback Phil Vigil, tight end Maurice Manley, defensive end Nic Pade, defensive lineman Tony Kelley and safety Aaron Silverthorne. Seniors Vigil and Manley close out successful careers at MSC. Four year letterwinners, Vigil passed for 2,032 yards this season, scored 11 touchdowns and completed 130 passes. Manley was second on the team with 34 receptions for 420 yards and five touchdowns.

                Junior Aaron Silverthorne led the team with three interceptions, five pass breakups and was fifth on the team in total tackles (57). Junior Nic Pade had 27 tackles, five tackles for a loss of 30 yards and three quarterback sacks. Sophomore Tony Kelley was second on the team in tackles for a loss (8.5/29), three quarterback sacks, 47 total tackles and one interception on the year.

                RMAC Third Team honors went to senior Chris Dennehy (OL) and sophomores Ryan Swope (OL), C.J. Smith (Punter) and Griffin Chernoff (KR).
